DOI: 10.14361/9783839446034-003
This essay offers a precis of the author's recently published book of the same name. It discusses (1) the book's claims about events, processes, and changes, (2) its theses about the nature of social changes and the significance of the material world for the constitution of social phenomena and social changes, (3) the book's principal claim that social changes arise from nexuses of activity chains and material occurrences, and (4) the implications of these claims for the enterprise of explaining social change. These claims and implications are illustrated by an analysis of the emergence of Swedish indie music fandom in the first decade of the 21st-century.
