3. Action research and reverse thinking for anti-desertification methods
Applying local revegetation techniques based on the ecological knowledge of local farmers in the Sahel of West Africa
I started fieldwork in Republic of Niger in 2000 and helped the villagers to carry the waste from the house yard to the degraded land in their farmland. At that time, I learned their ecological knowledge and waste is the useful resource for land restoration in the harsh condition. Based on the long-term fieldwork, I continued on-site experiments for greening the land. I started urban waste application with local farmers. This activity promotes land restoration and create the pasture land for local herders. It can also harmonize the relationship between the farmers and herders.
