Elisabeth Bronfen

Elisabeth Bronfen, born 1958, is professor of English and American Studies at the University of Zurich. Her research areas include literature, visual culture, gender studies, psychoanalysis. Her concept of cross mapping entails a hermeneutic practice that seeks to discover transhistoric and transmedial connections between the cultural production of the early modern period and modernity. Recent publications include a book on Hollywood and war, the night in philosophy, literature and cinema Mad Men, issues of seriality and a study on the American philosopher Stanley Cavell.
