Become a transcript Author
transcript is one of Europe’s leading independent academic publishers. We focus on publishing in cultural studies and the social sciences, in history, philosophy, and in cultural management. We offer more than 100 series and release about 400 new German- and English-language titles every year. Our backlist catalogue includes more than 3,500 titles in print and digital formats.
We were established in Germany in the late 1990s in order to provide an editorial service for innovative and critical research, and this commitment has formed our unique and broad yet well-balanced program that contributes high-quality publications to the latest debates in various academic disciplines. Along with classical scholarly formats we also publish stimulating essays that find significant audiences beyond the academic sphere. Since our very beginnings, one of our main aims has been to give innovative content an unmistakable look – a maxim of which our design team has never lost sight. This investment that distinguishes us from most other publishers in the field is not just a gesture of respect to our authors and their projects but also part of our commitment to make every single new release special and unique.
Our publication process is swift, flexible, and tailored to the individual needs of our authors and their projects.
As an author or editor you are assigned a contact person at transcript who is dedicated to support you throughout the entire publication process. We keep you informed about all the steps along the way to the release, also via your personal online author space that contains practical guidelines and useful tips for the publication process.
The publication process from the delivery of a complete manuscript to the release of the title takes an average of three to five months – if necessary this process can be accelerated according to your needs.
Our PR, marketing, and distribution departments all work together on the realization of your project. In co-operation with you, they ensure the best possible visibility of and accessibility to your contents.
One of our core tasks is to make your publication findable and accessible via all relevant channels, globally and locally, including the digital space and open access environments. To ensure discoverability and access, we collaborate with a number of strong partners and platforms whilst constantly extending our partnership network.
Our publications benefit from our independent programme range and our strong networks of national and international partners.
